DIY beauty products can be really intimidating for first timers like me, so when I found this great recipe for homemade face cream I was excited but nervous. I thought about it for a long time, went out and bought the ingredients and didn’t touch them for about 4 months until I ran out of all of my face cream and really had no other choice but to make it.

To be honest, the investment in ingredients can be pricey at first, I spent about $75 on everything I didn’t already have (basically everything but Vanilla Extract). Don’t panic, you could make about 4-5 batches with this investment. Plus one batch of this recipe equals the amount of at least 4 jars of bought face cream – so that’s roughly 20 x 2 oz jars! Ultimately it is a lot cheaper than buying even cheap face creams at the drug store like I was.

Benefits of making your own face cream:

luxurious high-end face cream for a low price

anti-aging all natural ingredients

smells like heaven (& no artificial scents!)

for all skin types, will not clog pores

absorbs quickly into skin

easy & quick to make

lasts 3-6 months in the fridge

you wont need to buy face cream ever again (and you wont want to!)

You will need:

  • almond oil
  • cocoa butter
  • shea butter
  • coconut oil
  • beeswax
  • floral water (I used rose water)
  • aloe vera gel
  • vitamin E oil
  • vanilla extract
  • 10-12 drops of orange essential oil (or another scent of your choosing)
  • containers (I used repurposed glass jam jars)

Where do I find these ingredients you ask? I started at Superstore, a Canadian low-cost warehouse grocery store. I bought some essential oils there and the sweet almond oil in the natural section. It was a bit cheaper. Everything else I bought at a local health food store. Many of these products you can get at a low-cost on Amazon as well. If anyone knows of anywhere else to go, let me know!

The process (once you have sterilized your jars) should only take you about 20 minutes. Most of the butters, oils, and beeswax you melt together in a double boiler, or if you don’t have one like me in a pyrex or glass bowl over a pot of water. Then, once melted put into the blender with the rest of the ingredients.

Add in your essential oil (the scent you choose) last. I chose orange because it is a mood lifter, decreases stress, and promotes healthy skin.

I would recommend adding about 6 drops, mixing, and then adding more depending on the scent ratio you want.

Your homemade face cream is ready to use right away! You can use this cream all over if you want, I like to save mine as my face cream.

For longer lasting cream keep in fridge. Keeping your cream cold also acts as a de-puffer, especially because of the aloe vera ingredient! When refrigerated the cream will stiffen up a bit but will melt in your finger tips in the heat of your hand really easily.

Enjoy this super lovely & indulgent orange and cocoa butter face cream, you deserve it! xoxo
